Thoughts and observations from the morning in Marpha

Westerners (myself included) like to take pictures of animals.

They grow marijuana here. It's illegal, but locals use it as medicine. I was curious about this and was asking our guide to point out the plants again, but he misinterpreted and not only showed me the plant but went trotting down to it to pick me a bunch of buds. I left them by the side of the road. Getting arrested for marijuana possession (in Nepal or India or Hong Kong or the US) is not in my plans.

The young boys who are monks are still very much children. They play and horse around and avoid work, and the older monks are loving and tolerant.

I really enjoy traveling in counties where people smile a lot. Nepal is pretty wonderful.
